Abstract

Ageing is a life spanning process of growth and development from Birth to death. Old age is an integral part of the whole, bringing fulfilment and self actualization. Ageing, along with the functional decline, economic dependence, and social cut off, autonomy of young generation, adds to depression, which further compromises their quality of life. The study was undertaken to correlate the level of depression and quality of life among 95 elderly selected through systematic random sampling technique, in a rural community of Amritsar, Punjab. Tools used were Geriatric Depression Scale and WHO QOL-BREF scale. The obtained data was analysed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The major findings of the study reveal that that 81(89.5%) of elderly had mild depression and only 4(4.2%) were severe depressed. Present study reveals that majority 92(96.8%) had good quality of life and only 3(3.2%) had average quality of life. In domain wise quality of life, in environment domain majority of elderly 87(91.6%) had good quality of life. Present study shows that the correlation between depression and quality of life depicts that there is correlation between depression and environment wellbeing domain with r value 0.297.

Abstract

First aid is an essential measure to manage minor ailments in the home setting. First aid box is collection of articles which is readily available and one can very easily assemble and arrange them at one place. The aim of the study is to motivate the respondents for preparation, maintenance and utilization of first aid box in their families. An operational design was used to conduct the study in 1-7 Blocks of Kittae, Amritsar. 60 families were selected with Non Probability Convenient sampling technique. First Aid Box inventory checklist for the preparation, utilization and maintenance of first aid box was used for the study. In present study about 23.3% were having first aid box in their families but items were incomplete, inappropriate and unorganized. Researcher motivated the families to assemble the selected nine items and purchase the remaining items to prepare the first aid box. About 73.3 % families during first follow up at 15^th day and 71.7% families during second follow up at 30^th day used the First Aid Box. Majority (77.8%) of the families were maintaining the first aid box items in second follow up. About 23 families spent Rs. 40-60 for the preparation of first aid box in their family. First aid box is essential for every family to provide first aid care. There is need to create awareness among the people about the importance of first aid box.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is one of the major world health problems of modern society. It is well recognized fact that diabetes mellitus is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Quality of life is an important aspect in diabetes as one might predict, people with diabetes rate their health-related quality of life significantly less favorably, on average, than people without diabetes. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted to assess the health-related quality of life among diabetic patients. A total of 100 patients having diabetes mellitus those fulfilling the inclusive criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique. Findings: The study concludes that all the study participants had good health related quality of life with the mean and SD of 130.89 ± 16.573 respectively. As per chi square test, association between health-related quality of life and type of family, occupational status and family history of diabetes mellitus found significant at level of p <0.05. Hence there is a significant relationship between health-related quality of life with type of family, occupational status and family history of diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: The study concluded that most of the subjects were having good health related quality of life.

Abstract

Developmental milestones in children or infants are a certain set of skills or age-specific tasks. Missed or delayed milestones in infancy can be symptoms of serious medical conditions. If parents understand their children’s development, they can tailor their expectations and provide stimulation. This study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge regarding the development milestones of infants among mothers. A descriptive study was conducted on 100 mothers of neonates visiting pediatric OPD and gynecological unit (Postnatal Ward).A convenience sampling technique was used to collect data. More than half of mother’s i.e. 60% had an average level of knowledge, 22% of mothers had a poor level of knowledge and 18% of mothers had a good level of knowledge. Mothers had the highest (75.25%) mean knowledge percentage in general information followed by 53.33%, in developmental delay and least (37.50%) mean knowledge percentage in languagedevelopment. The overall mean knowledge score is 10.240±2.40 and there is no association (p>0.05) between the knowledge level of mothers with selected demographic variables. It is concluded that the majority of the mothers of neonates had average knowledge regarding developmental milestones.
